My 6 Month Old Baby

It's been a while. And yet again, I can't believe how big Aiden's getting! He's so much fun and so happy. I love my baby, even if I feel like he's quickly outgrowing the title "baby".

He had his 6 month appointment yesterday. The doctor said he's where he should be as far as his motor skills are concerned. He's still where he's always been percentage-wise for his height, weight and head circumference. He's between 50-75% for height, 25% weight (just under 16 pounds), and 25% head. Still tall and skinny, but who would expect otherwise?

The only news from the doctors office is that he is finally ACTUALLY teething. We've been thinking he's teething since December. But she said his two bottom teeth are coming in and one (the left?) may be breaking through soon.
We also discovered that Aiden really does have some stranger anxiety. The doctor and nurses all seemed to put Aiden on edge. Any time they looked at him, he would get the saddest look on his face and he'd immediately start crying. He actually did better with the shots than the strangers. The doctor recommended we take Aiden out to parks and different places to be around other people more, but she acted like it was completely normal and even seemed to expect it.
Aiden's been eating solids for the past month. He's so funny. If he doesn't like something he'll wait till I put the spoon in his mouth and then blow all the food out (kind of like he's blowing a raspberry). I end up getting all nasty, covered in peas or oatmeal (the two he dislikes the most).

But he really loves bananas, apples, mangoes, sweet potatoes and squash. I've been mixing bananas into his oat meal so he'll actually eat a little bit of it, but usually he'll eat a quarter and spit out another quarter and I'll give up and throw away the other half of his serving size.
Since Aiden doesn't drink out of bottles, we got him a sippy cup to start drinking water or apple juice. He seems to really like it, but again, he does enjoy spitting the water out after getting it in his mouth. The back of his head and hair are always soaking wet when he gets to drink out of his cup. :)

He can sit unsupported for a few minutes while he's playing.

I think he could sit longer, but he doesn't like staying still. He's always rolling all around the room. It's so much fun to watch him. He'll find something he really wants to get and then find a way to roll over to it and shove it in his mouth. Sometimes it's my shoes, my phone, remote control, laptop charger, burp cloths, but hardly ever an actual toy. I'm going to have to start doing a better job picking up and keeping everything clean.

For Aiden's 6 month birthday I bought him a ball that talks, sings and rolls around on its own. It was supposed to get Aiden to try to crawl after it. Unfortunately, all it succeeded in doing was traumatizing him. He would not stop crying or let us put him down on the floor unless it was completely out of sight. So needless to say, that went back to the store. Anyone have any suggestions of fun 6-9 month toys?
Tyler just celebrated his 26th birthday. We decided to go down to San Diego and take advantage of our annual pass to the zoo. It was a lot of fun.

Aiden seemed to enjoy being out in his stroller but didn't seem to care for the animals I was trying to point out to him. I'm excited to bring him back when he's a little older and can somewhat understand what I'm showing him. The best exhibit we saw was probably the hippos.

They were out sunbathing and just as we were about to leave they decided to walk down into the water and take a  swim. The exhibit has a glass window into the water so we could see them walking on the bottom of the pond and pushing up to get their noses out of the water just enough to breath. The chimpanzees were also out sitting by the glass so we got a pretty good view. The polar bear is always one of my favorites, but it was super crowded so we didn't get the greatest view. And the baby panda was sleeping, so we didn't get to see him, either. :(
After the zoo we stayed at a hotel on Coronado Bay. It was seriously one of the coolest places I've seen. We drove across a bridge to get to the island. The island was so skinny we could see the ocean on both sides of the car.

The hotel overlooked the water towards San Diego so at night we could see the city skyline and also the ocean and boats. It was really cool. Unfortunately, Aiden wasn't the biggest fan of the pink crib the hotel supplied us with, so none of us got very much sleep. And the next day it was quite chilly. We should have done our island sightseeing the day before when it wasn't so cold and overcast. But all-in-all, I think the trip was a lot of fun.
