Meeting Aiden

Last picture pre-baby.
(Actually born 8/28/12 - they thought he was going to be born earlier that night)
Aiden Tyler Folkman

I know I was never patient and I didn't exactly love being pregnant, but seeing Aiden for the first time was well worth every second of pain, every stretch mark, and every single tear shed while waiting for him to arrive. The second I opened my eyes and saw my little baby I just knew he was mine and my heart felt as though it was going to burst out of my chest. I loved him immediately and with an intensity I never knew was possible. Was it all worth it? Absolutely. I can't even imagine not having him in my life. He's only 5 days old and still I wonder how I lived my life without him. Every time he looks at me with his beautiful dark eyes, or just makes a tiny noise, I can't get over how precious he is. I can't believe he's mine, and I get to keep him forever. I'm so grateful that my Heavenly Father sent him to me and has promised that he will be mine for all eternity. I can't imagine him not being in my life now that he's here.
During these first few days of Aiden's life, he's done some incredibly adorable things, and other not so adorable, but equally memorable things that I never want to forget:

  • Just lying in my arms making adorable faces.
  • Opening his big brown eyes and looking into my eyes.
  • Sucking on Tyler's fingers, trying to figure out why he's still hungry.
  • Sneezing every time we lay him down.
  • Squinting and making his "serious" face.
  • Giving me a hug the first time I tried burping him on my shoulder.
  • Batting his arms like a cat when he gets excited.
  • Looking so cute when he's peacefully sleeping.
  • Trying to suck on anything but what he should be sucking on.
  • Escaping from his swaddle - which took us forever to wrap.

And for the diaper stories that aren't quite as cute:
  • The first time he pooped his diaper was too small and it exploded all over me the very first time I tried to feed him in the hospital room. (1)
  • Tyler was changing his diaper and had to jump out of the way of the stream of pee while still in the hospital. (2)
  • While changing his diaper I heard an odd noise coming from Aiden and bent down to check out the source, just in time to see a blur of yellow-ish poo flying for my face - I turned just in the nick of time. (3)
  • While cuddling with me this morning, Aiden's diaper wasn't on quite right and he peed all over me - still looking like a little sleeping angel - Tyler took him to change his diaper while I got cleaned up, and in the same diaper change Tyler was attacked by Aiden's poo. (4 & 5)
  • Later today, while nursing, Aiden managed to pee on me again. (6)
Needless to say it's Aiden 6, us 0. We're definitely loosing this battle. But, the good news is that it's true what they say - it's not nearly as gross when it's your baby. In fact it's so funny it's slightly adorable...or at least very memorable.
